Muslim Parents Create a Serious Problem for Progressives

We can file this story under “Reports the Left Would Rather You Didn’t See.” Hundreds of parents in Dearborn, Michigan, recently flocked to a school board meeting to protest books in their children’s schools that contain sexually inappropriate content. Normally, the activist media would portray the protesters as bigoted white supremacist domestic terrorists. But there was one problem: These were Muslim parents.

As progressives pushed, and loudly cheered, the move to have school children take classes at home amid the COVID-19 pandemic, they failed to anticipate a factor that would end up causing them headaches in the not-too-distant future. As students were learning from home, parents got a closer look at the material being presented by teachers, and they weren’t exactly jumping for joy. Folks on the left repeatedly attempted to characterize the blowback as coming from conservative white parents. But this particular incident doesn’t exactly support that narrative.

Muslim Parents Speak Out

The parents who attended the Dearborn Public Schools board meeting were largely Muslim Arabs, who joined with Christians to express their anger about books used in class and school libraries that feature explicit content related to the LGBTQ community. “The titles include This Book is Gay, Flamer, The Lovely Bones, and Push, which go into explicit detail about performing sexual acts and include scenarios of pornography, rape, and incest,” according to Newsweek.

The protesters demonstrating at the meeting brandished signs that read “Keep your porno to yourself,” “Homosexuality Big Sin,” and “If democracy matters, we’re in the majority.” You probably don’t need to imagine the pearl-clutching that would ensue if it were blond-haired, blue-eyed, less melanated Christians holding these signs. Dearborn is located near Detroit, which holds the largest Muslim population in the US and the biggest mosque in the nation. Here’s another interesting tidbit: The city is in Wayne County, which has not voted for a GOP president in over nine decades. To put it simply, this is not MAGA country.

Imam Sayed Hassan Al-Qazwini from the Islamic Institute of America led the demonstration. He gave a sermon prior to the event, in which he called on congregants to participate. “Some of those books are completely inappropriate for our children to read,” the Imam insisted. “Some of those books promote pornography. Some of them promote homosexuality. We don’t need this. Go and attend this meeting.”

The Left at a Loss

So, what exactly are leftists supposed to do with this type of protest? Would they dare collude with the Justice Department to label the attendees as “domestic terrorists,” as they did with other parents earlier this year? The answer is certainly not. Perhaps, then, they might just settle for calling these people transphobes, homophobes, and whatever other ‘phobe applies. But, no, that won’t happen either. The progressive left would never deign to criticize people who are both non-white and non-Christian. It would violate the sacred precepts of wokeism, which mandates that folks in this category are never to be criticized, even if they commit anti-woke transgressions in public. The progressive Sanhedrin is only allowed to punish racial and religious minorities if they happen to vote Republican – then it is fair game. Indeed, if these people had worn MAGA hats to the meeting, the gloves would have come off.

New banner Perpective 1

In this instance, the most appropriate course of action for the left is to avert their gaze and say “what protest?” Ignoring the story and hoping it goes away is their best bet. But this is not going to solve the problem. If the Dearborn School District is like others across the country, it will not give up these books without a fight, which means there will likely be more such demonstrations in the future.

Moreover, what will happen if one of these schools is discovered to have concealed a child’s transgender identity from his or her Muslim parents? These folks will certainly not remain silent and allow such an affront to slide. If this situation proceeds as it has in other cities and states, the Muslim community might join with Christians in even greater numbers. It is safe to assume, at this juncture, that this would be progressives’ worst nightmare.
