Opposition arrests spark fears over South Sudan peace deal

Safety forces in South Sudan have arrested the oil minister and a military basic, who’re senior members of the primary opposition, sparking issues that the peace deal that ended the civil warfare could also be underneath risk.

Gen Gabriel Doup Lam and Puot Kang Chol, high-ranking figures of the Sudan Folks’s Liberation Motion in Opposition (SPLM-IO), are each allies of Vice-President Riek Machar, a rival of President Salva Kiir.
