In the broader markets, the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices gained 0.4 per cent each.
Meanwhile, sectorally, all but the Nifty IT swam in green. While the the index slipped 0.6 per cent, the Nifty Metal index rose 1.3 per cent, followed by the Nifty Bank, Auto, Financial Services, and Pharma indices, all up 0.4 per cent each.
Among individual stocks, Bajaj Auto, Hindalco, Adani Enterprises, M&M, ICICI Bank, and Tata Motors were the top Nifty gainers this morning, while Infosys, Power Grid, BPCL, Tech M, and HCL Tech fell up to 0.7 per cent.
In the broader market, Zomato added 1.6 per cent after 5 million shares changed hands in a block trade. Alibaba Group is said to sell 3 per cent stake worth $200 million in the company.
That apart, NDTV shares hit their 5 per cent upper circuit after promoters Radhika Roy and Prannoy Roy resigned as RRPR directors.
