HSBC bank has appointed Christina Ma as its new head of Global Banking for North Asia, according to a memo seen by FinanceAsia and confirmed by a spokesperson at the bank. She will join in the first quarter of 2023.

Ma was most recently head of Greater China equities for Goldman Sachs, where she spent 21 years. She first joined as a managing director and was promoted to partner in 2020.

HSBC’s current head of Global Banking for North Asia, Dai Kitamura, will leave the bank on November 1, after an extended period of absence. Stuart Lea, head of Global Banking for South Asia, will take on the role on an interim basis until Ma joins.

Ma will remain based in Hong Kong and report to Greg Guyett co-CEO of Global Banking and Markets, and to David Liao, co-CEO for Asia Pacific. She will also sit on the Global Banking and HBAP (HSBC Asia Pacific) executive committees.

Ma will be responsible for the bank’s North Asia coverage, client strategy and product delivery, working with the bank’s other global and regional product heads.  She will liaise with Lea on managing the bank’s balance sheet, overseeing its support infrastructure, and driving other regional priorities, the memo explained.

HSBC declined to comment beyond the contents of the memo.
