Charles Kushner has accused President Emmanuel Macron of failing to guard the Jewish group
France has summoned the US ambassador over an open letter accusing French President Emmanuel Macron of failing to confront rising anti-Semitism.
Charles Kushner, whose son Jared is married to US President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka, wrote within the Wall Road Journal on Sunday that he was “deeply involved over the dramatic rise of anti-Semitism in France and the dearth of ample motion by your authorities to confront it.”
Anti-Semitism in France had “exploded” since Hamas’s October 7, 2023 assault on Israel, Kushner argued, including that Macron’s plan to formally acknowledge the State of Palestine would “embolden extremists, gas violence, and endanger Jewish life in France.”
The French International Ministry dismissed the allegations as “unacceptable,” insisting that authorities have been “totally mobilized” to counter the surge in anti-Semitic assaults.
Kushner’s remarks “fall in need of the standard of the transatlantic partnership between France and the USA and of the belief that should prevail between allies,” the ministry mentioned, in accordance with AP.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has additionally criticized France’s choice to acknowledge Palestine, whereas Macron described the criticism as “faulty.” In July, he introduced that Paris would formalize recognition on the UN Normal Meeting in September, calling it a “historic dedication to a simply and lasting peace.”
