Washington, D.C. – Statement from MoveOn Executive Director Rahna Epting in response to recent reporting that a grand jury voted to indict Donald Trump.
“With a felony indictment in New York, another indictment looming in Georgia, and two impeachments to his name, Donald Trump does not belong on any ballot for public office. After years of avoiding any liability for his actions, Trump is finally being held accountable for his criminal conduct. This isn’t a trivial matter: Trump defrauded voters ahead of the 2016 election by illegally concealing critical information that should have been in the public record and then breaking the law again in covering up his crime.
“Furthermore, Trump should never be allowed to have a platform again. With his long history of spreading disinformation, spewing hateful, racist, and misogynistic rhetoric, and subverting the will of the people, the former MAGA president maliciously exploits any platform to which he has access. His calls for protests to defend his criminal acts are a thinly veiled cry to his most fanatic supporters to engage in another January 6. Any platform that continues to amplify his voice is giving Trump aid and comfort in causing more harm.
“No one is above the law, and that includes Donald Trump. He is a disgrace, those that protect him are willing accomplices, and he does not have the moral standing to hold public office ever again.”
