Electronics production worth ₹1.38 lakh crore carried out by 33 companies in TN so far

Up to now electronics manufacturing value ₹1.38 lakh crore has been carried out by 33 firms, together with Flextronics and Rising Stars Cell (Foxconn), in Tamil Nadu. The entire exports carried out by these firms for merchandise permitted underneath the Ministry of Electronics and Info Know-how’s (MeitY) ‘Modified Particular Incentive Package deal Scheme (MSIPS) value ₹57,720 crore, Minister Jitin Prasada mentioned in a reply to a query within the Lok Sabha.

The Ministry obtained 33 purposes between 2014 and 2022 underneath MSIPS in Tamil Nadu, and all have been permitted, mentioned sources.

Underneath MeitY’s ‘Scheme for Promotion of Manufacturing of Digital Parts and Semiconductors (SPECS),‘ seven purposes have been permitted in Tamil Nadu. The entire funding by these candidates within the State quantities to ₹6,852 crore, the minister mentioned.

The SPECS was notified on April 1, 2020, and remained open for purposes till March 31, 2024. The scheme gives a monetary incentive of 25 per cent on capital expenditure for digital parts, e-waste recycling, mechanics, micro/nano-electronic parts, photo voltaic photovoltaic (SPV) polysilicon, SPV wafers and photo voltaic cells, specialised sub-assemblies and capital items for manufacture of aforesaid items.

As of June 30, 2024, an incremental funding of ₹9,066.96 crore had been made underneath the SPECS scheme, leading to manufacturing valued at ₹19,902 crore until June 30, 2024.

Underneath the Manufacturing Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for large-scale electronics manufacturing, 4 candidates based mostly in Tamil Nadu have been permitted.

Apple telephones

Tamil Nadu has emerged as an vital hub for cell phone manufacturing. The workforce of over 43,000 within the State is engaged within the manufacturing of Apple telephones alone, he mentioned.

To spice up home manufacturing and entice funding within the cell phone worth chain, together with digital parts and semiconductor packaging, the PLI for Giant Scale Electronics Manufacturing was notified on April 1, 2020.

The scheme gives an incentive of three per cent to six per cent on incremental gross sales (over the bottom yr) of products manufactured in India and lined underneath goal segments similar to cell phones and specified digital parts, to eligible firms, for five years. Until June 30, 2024, incremental funding of ₹8,390 crore had been made underneath the PLI scheme, leading to manufacturing valued at ₹5.14 lakh crores until June 30, the Minister mentioned.
