Chelsea Handler Defends Cancel Culture: Just Don’t Be Racist or Sexist

On Monday morning, feminist “comedian” Chelsea Handler joined her fellow leftists on CBS Mornings to preview her guest hosting stint this week on the thoroughly unfunny Daily Show. During her appearance, she managed to dismiss the threat to freedom of speech and association that cancel culture poses in the United States by the woke left. According to Handler, all you need to do to avoid being canceled is not “be sexist or racist.”

Guest co-host David Begnaud kicked this portion of the interview off by noting how “there’s been a lot that’s happened since your show ended.” We had the ‘Me Too Movement’, we’ve had a global pandemic, the world is different as you sit at the table tonight,” he observed before asking “are you in any way different as a comedian?”

This gave Handler an opportunity to belittle Americans who are afraid of being canceled and fired from their jobs because of their political views: “Yes, I think we’ve all kind of had to evolve. And thankfully so. You know, I’m not really interested in all these people talking about the parameters of cancel culture, and how limiting that is. It’s not that limiting. All they’re asking you to do is not be sexist or racist, that’s not a tall order.”

Co-host Nate Burleson subsequently jumped in to ask Handler why she’s not afraid of being canceled to which she responded:

I’m not an idiot. I’m not doing anything to be canceled. I’m smart enough to understand the pulse of what’s happening and to change your — you know, behavior, and have your, you know, have your jokes not target anybody, not to be discriminatory, that’s not difficult. That’s actually, you know, challenging every comedian to be a little bit more clever. And I welcome that challenge, you know.

Democrat donor and co-host Gayle King ended the discussions about cancel culture by predictably agreeing: “I like when you said I’m not an idiot. And it’s not hard to do. It really isn’t hard not to be racist, not to be sexist.”

If all you had to do was not be racist or sexist in order to not be canceled, then there would hardly be any cancelations. The left preaches diversity but they only like racial or sexual diversity. What they cannot tolerate is diversity of thought. If you work for a soulless woke corporation and you make the mistake of speaking out about your conservative beliefs, you are at risk of being fired or at the very least scolded by some buzzkill HR representative.

Conservatives are constantly canceled for expressing their viewpoints. Whether that’s being censored or banned on social media or fired from their jobs, it happens. And it has little to do with whether or not someone said something that the left deems racist or sexist.

Maybe Handler should try telling a funny joke for once in her career instead of speaking out on topics she knows nothing about.

DAVID BEGNAUD: There’s been a lot that’s happened since your show ended, right? We had the ‘Me Too Movement’, we’ve had a global pandemic, the world is different as you sit at the table tonight. Are you in any way different as a comedian?

NATE BURLESON: That’s a good question!

CHELSEA HANDLER: Yes, I think we’ve all kind of had to evolve. And thankfully so. You know, I’m not really interested in all these people talking about the parameters of cancel culture, and how limiting that is. It’s not that limiting. All they’re asking you to do is not be sexist or racist, that’s not a tall order.

GAYLE KING: No—

HANDLER: So, when people complain about that I feel very — I have a very strong desire to put a show together and demonstrate for people that it’s not that hard to accomplish. You know? So I’m very eager to get back into the late-night scene.

BURLESON: Yeah, you mentioned cancel culture and you say that you’re not afraid of being canceled. Is that the reason why, because of the parameters in which people are canceling you, you’re like I’m not—

HANDLER: Well, I’m not an idiot.

KING: I like when you said I’m not an idiot. And it’s not hard to do. It really isn’t hard not to be racist, not to be sexist.
