CBI questions Karti Chidambaram for 8 hrs in ‘bribe-for-visa’ case for 3rd consecutive day

The CBI questioned Lok Sabha MP Karti Chidambaram for eight hours for the third consecutive day on Saturday in reference to its probe into the alleged Rs 50-lakh bribery for issuance of visas to 263 Chinese language employees concerned within the building of a Punjab-based energy undertaking in 2011, officers mentioned.

Karti Chidambaram arrived on the CBI headquarters right here at round 9.30 am and was questioned until 6 pm, they mentioned.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been questioning the Congress chief since Thursday within the 11-year outdated case which he has termed as “most bogus” and a results of “political vendetta”.

The case pertains to 2011 when his father P Chidambaram was the Union house minister.

The CBI had registered an FIR on Might 14 in opposition to Karti and others on allegations of bribe of Rs 50 lakh being paid to him and his shut affiliate S Bhaskararaman by a prime government of Vedanta group firm Talwandi Sabo Energy Ltd (TSPL), which was setting an influence plant in Punjab for re-issuance of undertaking visa for 263 Chinese language employees employed there, the CBI FIR mentioned.

Undertaking visas are a particular kind of visa launched in 2010 for energy and metal sector for which detailed pointers had been issued throughout Chidambaram’s tenure as house minister, however there was no provision of re-issue of undertaking visas, it alleged.

The company has already arrested Bhaskararaman in reference to the case.
