Budget 2025 allocates ₹74,226 crore for drinking water and sanitation

The Centre has allotted ₹74,226 crore for the Division of Consuming Water and Sanitation within the Union Funds 2025-26, with most of it allotted to the Jal Jeevan Mission which goals to supply faucet water connections to rural households.

The allocation marked a considerable rise from the revised estimates of ₹29,916 crore for 2024-25 for the division.

Nevertheless, the allocation is decrease than the ₹77,390.68 crore initially earmarked for the division within the Funds for 2024-25.

The Division of Water Assets, River Improvement and Ganga Rejuvenation has been allotted ₹25,276.83 crore, a rise from ₹21,640.88 crore from the revised estimates.

Below the Namami Gange Mission-II, ₹3,400 crore has been earmarked for cleansing and rejuvenating the river, up from ₹3,000 crore final yr.

Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), the flagship programme of the Centre geared toward offering faucet water connections to each rural family, has been allotted ₹67,000 crore, marking a big improve from the revised estimates of ₹22,694 crore in 2024-25.

“Separate MoUs will probably be signed with states and UTs to make sure sustainable and citizen-centric water providers supply,” she mentioned.

Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), which goals to maintain open defecation free (ODF) standing and implement strong and liquid waste administration programs in villages, has been allotted ₹7,192 crore, the identical as earlier yr.

Different key allocations embody ₹80 crore for data, training, and communication (IEC) efforts beneath JJM, ₹13.50 crore for mission administration, and ₹89.53 crore for the Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Nationwide Institute of Water and Sanitation (SPM-NIWAS).

Moreover, the federal government has launched a provision of ₹341.70 crore for the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN), a scheme targeted on offering water and sanitation amenities to essentially the most susceptible tribal communities.
