A British nationwide has been arrested in Namibia for allegedly sexually molesting minors and taking nude pictures of them.
Douglas Robert Brook can also be accused of touching the kids’s personal elements whereas on a vacation in central Namibia.
Police mentioned the suspect focused younger girls and boys from the indigenous San neighborhood within the central Otjozondjupa area.
The 65-year outdated Briton faces 38 costs, together with rape, indecent assault and youngster exploitation, Namibia native media reported.
The British nationwide, who arrived in Namibia final week for a vacation, is but to answer the fees.
He was arrested on Sunday after he allegedly lured 34 younger kids with sweets and cash to take their photographs whereas they have been bare.
Maureen Mbeha, a regional police boss, advised state media that the vacationer sexually abused 16 teenage women and 14 boys.
Among the nude pictures of the kids have been reportedly discovered on the Briton’s digicam, which was confiscated by police after his arrest.
He appeared within the Grootfontein Justice of the Peace court docket, north of the capital, Windhoek, on Tuesday the place he was denied bail and remanded in custody, the Namibia Press Company reported.
The case was postponed to subsequent month after the state prosecutor requested extra time for investigations.
“The vacationer stays in police custody,” Info Minister Emma Theofelus advised the BBC.
The UK embassy in Namibia mentioned it had “no info past what has been reported within the media”.
In an announcement, the Namibian Ministry of Atmosphere and Tourism mentioned the actions have been “deeply disrespectful to the cultural heritage of the San neighborhood”.
“It’s unacceptable for any customer, overseas or native, to use or objectify indigenous communities or their kids for any goal, together with images,” the ministry mentioned in an announcement cited by Informanté newspaper.
The southern African nation is a well-liked tourism vacation spot for its breath-taking desert landscapes and wealthy cultural heritage.
