Anti-government protesters erected barricades in Belgrade and Novi Unhappy on Sunday night, following a big rally demanding new elections in Serbia.
Police warned organizers that they’d not tolerate additional unrest, after demonstrators clashed with officers within the capital the earlier evening.
The coed-led protest motion started after a concrete cover collapsed at a newly renovated railway station in Novi Unhappy final November, killing 16 folks. Activists have demanded accountability, blaming the tragedy on mismanagement and corruption.
On Sunday, the coed group Blokada FON revealed a map of roadblocks in Belgrade and urged opposition lawmakers to boycott parliamentary periods.

President Aleksandar Vucic, who has labeled the demonstrators “hooligans paid from overseas,” has refused to resign or name new elections. “Serbia has received. You may’t defeat Serbia with violence,” he instructed reporters on Sunday.

Inside Minister Ivica Dacic urged protesters to “protect peace and never provoke conflicts with police.” Additionally on Sunday, authorities introduced the arrest of eight folks suspected of planning assaults on state establishments from college grounds. In a separate assertion, Dačić stated 77 people had been detained following the riots in downtown Belgrade.
