ANKARA, Turkey — A Turkish Air Drive F‑16 fighter jet crashed close to a freeway in western Turkey early Wednesday, killing its pilot, officers and media stories mentioned.
Radio and radar contact with the jet was misplaced shortly after midnight after it took off from the ninth Fundamental Jet Base in Balikesir province, in accordance with a protection ministry assertion.
Search and rescue operations had been instantly launched, the ministry mentioned, including that the wreckage was quickly positioned and the pilot had been “martyred.”
The plane went down close to a piece of the Istanbul–Izmir freeway, scattering particles throughout a large space, Hurriyet newspaper reported. Safety forces, firefighters, and medical groups had been dispatched to the scene.
The reason for the crash has not but been decided, the ministry mentioned, including that an investigation can be carried out by an accident inquiry group.
