Lammy is visiting Nigeria and South Africa this week as a part of London’s outreach to the continent, only a week after 56 members of the Commonwealth signed a doc calling for a “dialog” about reparations for slavery.

The transatlantic slave commerce was “horrific and horrendous” and left “scars,” Lammy stated on Monday in Lagos, the Nigerian port metropolis that was as soon as a hub for slavers.

“I’m the descendant of enslaved folks, so I acknowledge that,” he added.
